What… is a Witch?!

WHY does our society have so many trigger words? Gay. Bomb. Sin. Hell. Witch is probably my favorite, because I am one; and it makes a lot of people uncomfortable. Witches are the last thing you need to fear. You just need to understand what that means.

Everything is made of energy.

We are made of energy. We therefore have the ability to control the energy within, and around us. There are everyday activities that we do with our energy like eat, exercise, and think. We take energy manipulation a step further and set goals for the future, study for an exam to ace it, and lie to people (believing that our lies will solve a problem). Witches take it a step further. We meditate and figure out what makes energy and the world tick. We’re always looking for answers, connecting with objects and people, and we manifest our intentions into reality. Witches are nothing to be afraid of…unless you wronged them in the worst way possible. But in their defence, any mad person (consciously magical or not) would do crazy stuff if someone pushed them to lose control.

Witches are not perfect people. We have emotions just like you. Most of us feel our emotions a little more than others. Most witches can’t decipher if they’re feeling their emotions or the feelings of another person or thing. As we are conduits of energy, we absorb a lot of sensations including other people’s thoughts and emotions. That being said, we are always working to better ourselves, as well as our response to the outside world. But seriously, it gets annoying when people are always assuming that we have relations with the devil, and aim to destroy the world.

That could be farther from the truth. Witches feel so much of the world that we want to be better in order to comfort the world.

We don’t want you to become a witch. We do not care about what you choose to believe in. We simply ask that you don’t judge us, because we don’t judge the fact that most of your holidays come from our historical ceremonies

My adventures as a witch have been very similar to other pagans. (By the way not all pagans are witches. Pagans connect to the earth/universe in their own individual way, as to not be judged so hard. Jokes! Some pagans are just not down with the craft; and there’s nothing wrong with that.) I was raised by a religious family, and always wanted more spiritually. I didn’t think it was right to just give my soul up to a supreme being and be fearful of going to hell, or excited to die. I like the concept of most religions, but like socialism, I don’t agree with the implications. Socialism, also, is not a bad thing. It’s not a suitable government for most economies, but if you do YOUR OWN research on the theories of socialism, you’ll see that it wasn’t meant to be the bad guy of humanity…similar to religion. However, when people get caught up in their pious ignorance, they have a way of tearing down somethings that were once beautiful.

Back to my adventures! The very first time I heard of a spiritual sect that speaks of witches, I had the strangest sensation. It felt so close to me, yet I didn’t know a thing about it. I eventually became a witch and realized why people don’t know about it. Witches have been antagonized for so long, we basically became Maleficent. I can’t tell you how many times people have asked me if I worship the devil. My own parent thought I was possessed. My boyfriends shunned my beliefs, out of fear. I was hurt. I am hurt, to know that so many people are fearful of what I do, despite knowing who I am. Their fear will not stop me. Instead I write to you all to say what this is.

Witches do spells. Witches mediate. Some of us talk to ghosts. Others have pretty awesome powers. All of us feel… EVERYONE’S emotions. AND we don’t all believe in the same thing! Some believe in one god or goddess, some believe in most or all, some believe in themselves and the force. Just because we believe in something, doesn’t mean that we worship it. We ask questions, all the time. And we’re always looking for answers. I personally love learning about different religions. I don’t burn if I step into a church. We’re not demons.

We live in a society that demonizes a lot of things that other people tell us we are not supposed to understand. Why would you want to live in the dark, staying in the safest place that someone else says exists? In life, we are thrown through the pits of fire and the best of moments just by living. Why should you be afraid of something you possibly already encountered?

I don’t care if you like or dislike witches after reading this article. I care that you took the time out to learn a bit about us. Thank you. We are here. And we want what’s best for everyone. We are tired of being shunned, judged, and prayed on to go to hell because someone didn’t have the human decency to ask us what it means to be pagan. Most days I don’t feel like a witch. I don’t feel like a pagan. I feel like Noni. These things are a lifestyle. We don’t visit the moon every so often and grasp the sensation of witchery. We already are it, as we always have been… yet so much more. We urge you to ask more questions, and find more answers. Fear will keep you in place. Is that really where you want to be?

Knowledge, and wisdom never fall scarce. Take advantage of it. You’ll be surprised by what you discover.
